Transform!
Ok it’s nearly the end of 2019, and the end of the second decade of the 21st century is looming too! WOW it doesn’t seem like 10 minutes ago since we were holding our breath and hoping that all the Y2K work would work! Of course I worked for a software company then, working with global investment banking corporations. I certainly didn’t have a word for the year 2000, that sort of thing didn’t seem important then, somehow. BUT I DO have a word for 2020.
I’ve chosen TRANSFORM.
I’ve been rather quiet here, and on social media in general, but busy behind the scenes. For the last few months I have been thinking and planning and working towards some fundamental transformations in my business.
I have been creating more technical training in my role as technical trainer for FreelanceU. I have created quite a list of courses for them over the last 18 months. I really enjoy creating technology training courses. I love to de-mystify technology and explain software, tools and apps in a straightforward way that helps business owners to get technology working for them.
However, this isn’t a new ‘thing’ for me. When I was working for the software company, Strategic Systems Solutions, and before that, for Nissan, I created programming courses at both those places too. I was also very involved in training IT graduates for Morgan Stanley. I have been creating technical training, on and off, for over 20 years.
Anyway, I have a mission.
to empower female business owners to use online tools and technology, to grow visibility, to improve productivity and to generate more revenue
And it is time.
In fact it’s well past time that I made fundamental changes in my business. I am going ‘all in’ on building my business around online courses. I am moving away from service provision.
WHY?
Well I have been providing services around technology and podcasting for 10 years now, and I feel like that is long enough. I enjoy it immensely, but I need to change. I need a new challenge. The time is right.
So the word, TRANSFORM feels right. I know it can feel a somewhat overused word, especially by ‘the gurus’ but for me, right now, it’s exactly the right word.
BUT, it’s scary.
I admit that. At first I had it in my head that I would be ‘just’ adding some online courses into my business. But the more I thought about what I was doing, the more I realised that actually I was starting from scratch again in terms of building a business model that truly reflects my ambitions at the start of 2020.
I have registered a new domain and will be building a new website from which to launch my training-based business. I will be closing this website and another which has been hanging around uselessly for several years,
And what about podcasting?
Podcasting is still important to me, but I will no longer offer podcasting services. I have several podcast-related courses that will be for sale, and lots of useful, helpful, content. But my main podcasting focus will be my own textile art podcast, Stitchery Stories. I have a growing and engaged global audience and I am building a lovely community around my podcast. It’s time I became more intentional in growing my audience and in growing my podcast as part of my business, and growing revenue opportunities from it.
I have a head bursting with new ideas, and it’s my intention to increase my blogging again as I work towards my new goals. At first I will continue to blog here, but once my new site is ready then I will be blogging over there. The best of my content from here will be transferred too.
Anyway, I’m heading off into details which is not my intention for today. I just wanted to share my thoughts and new direction. I wanted to share the story behind my word of 2020.
TRANSFORM.
I decided to create an animated GIF to illustrate my word for 2020 and whilst I was creating it, I realised that, importantly, transform wasn’t just applicable to me. I realised that as I step forward, be brave, and transform my business, then more business owners will have access to help from me to transform their businesses.
I meet so many business owners who are struggling to understand the technology or tools or software products that they need to use in their business.
And I acknowledge that my gift is making technology and software easy to understand for the non-techy crowd. It’s taken me a long time to step up and own this, and to start building a business around it too. I am looking forward to helping more people. It is after all, my mission.
So here’s to transformation in 2020!
